Interview with a teacher - James - Communicate School

Interview with a teacher – James

James has been an English language teacher for many years. His aim is to help as many people as possible to speak English.

Why did you choose to work in the EFL industry?

At uni, while doing the Erasmus foreign exchange in Spain, I discovered I was passionate about language and decided I wanted to be an English teacher.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The creativity: I get to design activities and materials and put them into practice in the classroom.

What were you like in school?

My best subjects were art, English and history and I loved those classes but not so much the others.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Playing guitar and drawing/painting.

Who is your role model and why?

I haven’t got a particular one but I’m inspired by Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Alice Coltrane, Alan Watts and my friends and family.

What would your autobiography be called?

James Shaw – Fo’ Shaw or,  James Story – My Shaw

Describe your ideal Sunday morning.

A nice lie-in. Reading the papers over breakfast with some tunes on and seeing what friends are up to later.

If you could describe Communicate in 3 words, what would they be?

Welcoming, student-centred and fun!
