Pancake Day - Communicate School

Pancake Day

We recently celebrated Pancake Day in the UK and at Communicate School staff and students were treated to a pancake ‘bar’.

Pancake Day is also known as Shrove Tuesday and has been celebrated in the UK as far back at 1439. It began as a Christian tradition to mark the start of Lent, a way to use up things like eggs and milk before the fasting period. However, it is now widely enjoyed across the UK by people from all religions and backgrounds.

Students were able to purchase some warm pancakes and add toppings, such as; Nutella, Biscoff (Lotus), syrup, cream, bananas, and fresh berries. We collected charitable donations for the pancakes, which were given to our local foodbank. Foodbanks in the UK help to provide food and essential products to the those who are struggling and cannot afford them in the local community. Their work is incredibly important in helping the most vulnerable in our society and we are very happy to have raised some money for them.

We enjoyed sharing pancakes and a piece of British culture with our students, whilst also giving back to our local Manchester community!
